The libsvtav1 encoder was originally developed by Intel Corporation. Intel initiated the project as part of its Scalable Video Technology (SVT) framework, which was designed to create software encoders optimized for multi-core processors, particularly Intel Xeon CPUs.
Intel’s primary goal with SVT-AV1 was to deliver an encoder that could scale efficiently across multiple CPU cores. This architecture allowed the encoder to balance high compression efficiency with fast processing speeds, making it highly suitable for cloud and real-time video streaming workloads.
